After decades of travel, I’ve come to appreciate that elegance often lies in simplicity. I no longer pack for “just in case” or for imagined versions of myself. Instead, I pack for the woman I am, grounded, intentional, and free.

Gone are the high heels I once thought necessary. These days, I travel with one pair of beautiful flats and a low, versatile wedge. I can walk for miles without pain and still feel put-together whether I’m exploring a souk or stepping into a chic hotel lobby.

I used to travel with too much jewelry, necklaces tangled in pouches, bracelets I never wore. Now I choose one meaningful custom piece. It’s enough. It adds polish, tells a story, and doesn’t weigh me, or my luggage down.

I’ve let go of the urge to overpack outfits. If it’s not something I wear and love at home, it doesn’t make it into my suitcase. I prefer a few well-made, breathable pieces that layer easily and feel like me no matter the destination.

As for toiletries, I’ve simplified that, too. A small, curated kit with my favorite skincare essentials travels with me. I don’t need an entire spa, just the few things that keep me feeling refreshed and centered. A good natural deodorant, my go-to serum, and a nourishing lip balm are always in reach.

I always bring a small notebook and pen. Yes, I have my iPhone, but there’s something grounding about writing by hand. I might scribble a memory, a thought, or simply the name of a dish I loved and want to remember. It’s the act of slowing down that makes it essential.

This way of packing reflects how I live now, light, intentional, and present. I’ve stopped carrying what no longer serves me, both in my luggage and in my life.

Because, truly, the most important things don’t fit in a suitcase.
